One mother revealed how an innocent comment from her son about her weight led her to lose almost six pounds.
Nicola Boswell, 42, a program manager from Yateley, Hampshire, struggled to find time to eat healthy and admitted “surviving on sugar,” with the lockdown adding to the problem.
But a discarded comment from her son Jameson, now five, became a turning point for the single mother to revise her diet and lifestyle.
“I knew I had to change,” she says. “I wanted to take my career to the next level, I wanted to be happy and I wanted to be the best role model for my son as the only parent.”
Since talking to her son in October last year, Boswell’s weight has increased from 15.5 pounds to just 9.6 pounds, and decreased from a size 18-20 to a size 8-10.
“I had a few toxic relationships that were horrible for my self-esteem,” she explains. “I was out all the time to socialize and just not take care of myself.
“When I had my son everything changed. I had even less energy to support myself and I survived on sugar. And my weight just kept increasing.”

The start of the coronavirus pandemic meant Boswell gained her weight even further.
“It only got worse during the initial lockdown as it was such a troubling and difficult time,” she explains. “I’ve turned to food for consolation, paired with extra glasses of wine.
“One day my son looked at me and innocently said, ‘Mom, you are fat,’ but he just said what he saw,” she adds.
After talking to her son, Boswell signed up for The 1: 1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan.
To keep her on track with her weight loss goals, she decided to tell her boss about her desire to change her lifestyle.
“I wanted to make an impression by showing that I am someone you can rely on and who always does what it says on the tin,” she explains about the move.
The story goes on
“So I told him last October that I wanted to lose two stones by Christmas to keep me motivated.”

The trick worked as the single mom not only stuck to her goal, but exceeded it.
“In eight months, I had lost five pounds and exceeded my weight loss goal,” she explains.
“Before I made a living on quick and easy food and lots of sugar for quick bursts of energy, it was amazing when I started seeing the results of the diet plan.
“I needed results quickly to keep myself motivated,” she adds.
The transformation affected not only how she looked, but also how she felt.
“Until I lost the weight, I had no idea how much my height was affecting me,” she explains.
“I would find any excuse to avoid situations like family gatherings and seeing people I didn’t see regularly.”
And her weight loss has also had an impact on her relationship with her son, making it easy for her to carry him to bed and giving her more energy to have fun with her little boy.

Boswell also admits that she still gets a shock when she catches her new reflection in the mirror walking past a window.
“I just feel like a completely different person,” she continues. “I’m more relaxed, more ambitious and just enjoy living in the moment.
“My confidence, self-worth and self-esteem have gone through the roof. I am a new person and it shows in every aspect of my life. I haven’t felt this good in years.”
